Santoreggia (summer savory) honey is produced by "La Girlanda"farm, from bees that feed on the Santoreggia and Sideritis plants, located on the mountain meadows of Mount Sirente in Abruzzo.
The farm, started in 1981, is owned and operated by Mario Iacobacci, whose employees include his wife and 2 children. They tend to the 130 hives, whose bees are virtually free to explore and feed on any and all of the wildflowers and plants of the entire National Park of Abruzzo, as well as the areas of Lazio and Molise.
The Santoreggia plant is of the same family as thyme, but has a more intense scent. The Sideritis plant, of Balkan origin, is now widely distributed in the mountains of the Regional Park Sirente Velino - where the apiaries are also located - at an altitude of 1300 meters. The honey that is gathered from the bees that feed on this and other plants, ranges from amber yellow to light green in color, with a flavor and aroma of medium intensity, with very floral-forward notes, as well as those described as "wet earth"
The flowering of these plants begins from late May to early June, and as mountain production of honey essentially depends on the rain, La Girlanda is able to offer other various honeys from those described below. These variations, as with all of their products, are accompanied by an expert taste tester of the National Market of the Production of Honey.
